Finding your Golden Mean (6/12)

Hello and welcome (back) to my blog!

I am here with the 2nd part of this article! Today I will unveil to you how to optimize the use of your character strengths, in other words to act optimally in the right moment and in the right circumstance. Because we all know that any talent that is \”badly\” used – over- or under used – is not a talent anymore, but a weakness. And that has unwanted consequences on both us and the ones around us.

The character strengths we approach this month are perspective, creativity and bravery. And if you want to what each of them does, check this article, where you will find their definitions and examples on how to apply them in your day-to-day life in order to feel and become better.

,In case you are new on my blog and don\’t really know what character strengths are: they are the backbone of Positive Psychology – the science that studies human flourishing, or what leads us humans to peak performance. These character strengths have been researched intensely in the last 20+ years and the studies say that they are:

  1. Universal
  2. Cross-cultural
  3. Easily recognized
  4. Elevating to self and others

And now is the time to see what is the \”golden mean\” for each of them, in other words how each of them can be used optimally (not too little or too much):

Bravery is underused when we act cowardly and are unwilling to act. Overused when we are risk-taking, foolish and overconfident. Whereas its golden mean is when we face our fears and confront adversity.

Creativity is underused when we are conforming, plain and dull. Overused when we are eccentric, odd and scattered. Whereas its golden mean is when we show uniqueness that is practical, and when we are original.

Perspective is underused when we act are shallow and superficial. Overused when we are overbearing and arrogant. Whereas its golden mean is when we see and offer the wider review.
