How to build Realistic Optimism & Hope (10/2024)

Hello and welcome (back) to my blog, dear Positive friends!

And welcome to October, my 3rd favourite month of the year. Or maybe the 4th – it\’s a bit of a tie with December ;). What are your favourite months of the year, btw?

Today im back with another calendar, as important as the 1st one I published this month. Because it promotes the idea of staying optimistic and hopeful. And, more to the point, how to build realistic optimism.

From a positive psychology perspective, realistic optimism is connected to more than just 1 character strength.

The first two character strengths I can think of are Hope and Zest, probably obviously so.

Our character strength of Hope allows us to have positive expectations, confidence in our goals and future and to be optimistic.

Our character strength of Zest allows us to have enthusiasm for life, and to be happy, active and energized.

And the 3rd character strength I think it\’s closely related to realistic optimism is our judgement or critical thinking. Which allows us to see the 360 degrees of details, to be analytical, detail oriented, open-minded, rational and logical.

So if you feel you sometimes struggle to keep optimistic and to find reasons to stay hopeful, here is a calendar, built by psychologists, that gives us daily nudges to stay optimistic and hopeful. And to act towards it. Because just waiting for something to happen is not enough, we know that by now, right ;)?

Or if you feel that you are maybe too optimistic – unrealistically optimistic – this is a great way to keep the balance right.

And I know it comes in the middle of the month, but who says you can\’t be optimistic twice per day?

Now, as a certified positive psychology coach, I will be your guide on the path of understanding and applying your values and strengths for a balanced life, filled with more purpose and enthusiasm.

I am here to help you discover what brings you joy. The things we \”burn\” for, our interest, hobbies and/or passions bring us joy. But not only. We can find joy in the smallest \”things\” and, from my own experience, being more mindful about our daily life helps increasing our reasons and sources for joy.

Hoping I brought a bit more excitement about your intentions, im looking forward to meeting you, so we can discover together how you can live the life YOU want.

Remember, 2024 will be (y)our BEST year yet ;)!

Until next time, stay positive and take care of yourselves!
